Now that Thomas is one he suddenly seems much more like a little boy than a baby.
First of all he now has two molars and is very keen on trying to feed himself. He loves to grab the spoon and stick it in his bowl. He hasn’t quite realised you also have to scoop to get some food on the spoon. Sometimes he refuses to eat his dinner but if you then give him some finger food he’ll happily eat that. He’s definitely starting to show a will of his own.
In the week before his birthday, Thomas was taking 4 –5 steps between furniture but as soon as he had experienced racing across the lawn with his baby walker he realised he was quite capable of walking longer distances by himself. First he managed 10 – 15 steps but within a week he was walking the whole length of the lounge or the garden. It’s funny to watch him practise his walking as he holds up both arms in the air and grins and giggles all the way. He’s so pleased with his newly acquired skill.
Nursery is going well now. The first few weeks were a bit difficult for him, he cried every time we entered the building or when I tried to hand him over to one of his teachers. Now that he’s had some time to get used to being away from mum he absolutely loves it. He no longer cries when I drop him off. In fact, he sometimes ignores me altogether and just wants to go and play. His sleeps at nursery are often much shorter than at home so at the end of the week (Thursday) he’s usually exhausted and sleeps a bit extra. Still, his teachers say he’s adjusting well and that he’s a joy to feed so with a bit of time his sleeping will probably improve as well.
